Red Beans: Premium Ice Cream Bingsu, Coffee & Pretzels

Written by Barun Thursday, 17 November 2011 04:37

Great place for dessert!

Specializes in real homemade bread pretzels, beverages and BINGSU!

What is bingsu? A fantastic Korean summertime dessert that includes shaved ice, ice cream or frozen yogurt, fruits and syrup. It        can  be accompanied with other toppings of your choice, such as sliced nuts, sweet redbean, chocolate chips, etc.

Red Beans provides several varieties of all of their specialty foods for reasonable prices. Also one of the only places to make 'healthy bingsu,' with frozen yogurt, fruits & a drizzle of syrup.

Ask for a membership card and you will can accumulate 10% on every purchase that can be redeemed as store credit later!

Location: in Chonbukdae district. From the main street, turn left on the side street between Kenya Coffee and 7-11 (across from Baskin Robbins). Walk half-a-block, 2nd floor on the left.

Costco outlet store - in Jeonju!

Written by Barun Wednesday, 09 November 2011 16:05

Thanks to Georgia L. Bryant:

There is a store in Songcheondong (northern Jeonju) that receives returned or slightly damaged items from Costco.  The prices are usually a little cheaper or just the same as found in Costco. The store has many great things and I highly recommend it to anyone who is missing a little taste of home and can't get to Costco.  The sign for the shop is not in English and it doesn't say anything about Costco.  In Korean the store name is 수 입브랜드  No Costco card needed!

Directions: If you are at the entrance of the big Lotte Mart in Song Cheon dong go away from Chonbuk University area towards the smaller Lotte Mart that was previously a GS Mart.  You will pass a Baskin Robbins on your right and then a Dunkin Donuts.  Just a little further down from the Dunkin Donuts there is a street light.  At that street light turn right.  There will be an T World cell phone shop and a post office at that intersection.  Continue straight until the flashing red/yellow light intersection.  At the intersection you will see Lotte Super and a closed Tours le Jour.  Turn right at this intersection.  The store is on the right hand side next to The Story coffee shop.  A picture of the sign for the store is below. [Map link to be added in the future!]

Lee's Family Restaurant

Featuring a blend of traditional and modern decor, using Jeonju's traditional paper, this restaurant serves excellent food over a river view. It's right behind Lotte Dept Store.

It's a very nice alternative to Outback or TGI's... Classier.

La Festa

Delicious pasta served in an elegant, smoke-free environment. They play English background music, offer good wines, and are CLEAN. The reasonable prices and friendly, attentive service seal the deal. It's nice for a date or mellow group of friends.

It's between Paul Church (or Gaeksa), and the Zaim apartments (or Samchon Library). On the bend on a hill, across from an S-Oil station.

Gran Piatto

Several locations in town, and one near the base of Moak-san. The one in SeoshinDong is the best one I've tried (in the city limits) It's pretty much on top of the McDonald's there. In the building to the right of McD's, the entrance is about 20m down that little street, elevator to 5th floor. Very nice view.

Ga Jok Hwe Gwan

Written by admin Thursday, 16 April 2009 15:38

Ga Jok Hwe Gwan is a trademark Jeonju Restaurant. It's on the tourist maps and officially endorsed by the city. It is above the dollar store on wedding street, just a block east of Deepin. Every taxi driver knows it.

I have eaten there once, and was surprised at the superior quality of food and service. The layout of the place is attractive and spacious. Going back for seconds. Two chopsticks up! -DVM
