Moak-san

The mountain that dominates Jeonju's view to the south is Mt. Moak. Add the Korean work for mountain, san, and it's Moak-san. You shouldn't live in Jeonju without at least once having tackled Moak-san. It's the highest mountain in the area, with the distinctive antenae on top. (This pic is Moak from Geumsansa, on the other side.)
You can hike right up to those antennae and over the mountain, no need for special equipment; but it can get pretty straining. If you are athletic, you can get up to the peak in about an hour (30 to get down). If you are very daring, you can go over the peak and walk down to Geumsan Temple on the other side. That should take about 3-4 hours, but you can take a bus back to Jeonju when you get there.
Bus to Moak-san: #970 Jeonju side, #79 Geunsansa side... both pass Gaeksa . . . or you can take a taxi for about W12,000.
