Travel vaccinations

Written by Barun Saturday, 20 August 2011 18:52

There are three places to get travel vaccinations in Jeonju, each spread out evenly across the city.

Although the following website is Korean-only (filtered through Google Translate), a map is located for each location that can be printed and shown to a taxi driver. Follow the next steps:

1) Jeonju Health Center website

2) Click on the topmost left tab, beside the Jeonju Health Center Logo (보건소 소개)

3) In the left column, click on the last option, at the bottom of the list (오시는길)

4) These are the three options shown:

(a) Central Jeonju (전주시보건소)

(b) Northern Jeonju - Jinbuk-dong / Deokjin area (덕진진료소)

  (c) Southern Jeonju - Pyeonghwadong area (평화보건지소)

Jeonju veteran Andy Clay and his experience on the Jinbuk-dong location:

"Very easy to do - just fill in address/passport or alien number and phone number on a form, pay, then go upstairs for the vaccination. Took about 10 minutes in total. Very quick, easy and painless - the staff aren't fluent, except for one of the doctors, but all speak enough English to get by without any problems.

Typhoid vaccine - cost W5000.

Hepatitis B vaccinations - cost  W4700.

Hepatitis A - for some reason, they can't do this one here. You need to go to one of the top-tier hospitals (Jesus or CBNU Hospital) to get this done.

Possibly other vaccinations available at the clinic. It might be worth getting a Korean speaker to contact them and find out a definitive list."

Pediatrics

Written by admin Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:51

There is a good pediatrics clinic in Pyounghwadong, just left of the Dunkin Donuts on Baekjae Ro. It's on the second floor.

The telephone is 063 237 5577.

There are about 5 doctors there and some speak better English than others, but I've always been able to make myself understood (I think!). The clinic is spotless and modern with a small play area for the kids to run around. It's open 365 days a year, 8 a.m. - 10 p.m.

Accupuncture & Deep Tissue Massage

Written by admin Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:48

Hanui doctor (Korean Medicine). Shin Min Seob has a practice on the 2nd floor of the Kookmin Bank building at the Jeonju Mart intersection in Hyoja-dong. His staff doesn't speak much English (except his wife), but he does, and they all communicate. Best of all, the office is clean, partitions private, equipment new and modern, etc. . . with insurance, W5,000 for the first treatment, W3,000 thereafter. Oh, painless and it works! I particularly recommend Hanui for soft tissue injuries and strains.

If anyone is in need of an acupuncturist, I can highly recommend Shin Min Sub Oriental Clinic.

The clinic is on the second floor of a building directly across from McDonald's. The sign outside is bright blue/green. The hours are 9-7 Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On Tuesday and Thursday, the clinic is open until 9 p.m. On Saturday's it is open from 9-4.

The phone number is 063-228-7579. Korean website: hanicare.net

Sexual Health

Written by admin Thursday, 16 April 2009 14:45

STD testing is not common here, and a request may be met with confusion or worse.

Doctor Song Ho Shin (on this page) respects patient confidentiality. A standard blood and urine STD screening costs W20,000 or depending on the condition, diagnosis alone can be cheaper.

Located in Pyeongwhadong, which can be accessed using bus #2. See the map here.

Dermatologist

Written by dvm Sunday, 08 June 2008 00:00

A viewer wrote: "I recently went to a dermatologist, Dr. Koh's Clinic,  in Seosindong and highly recommend them.  Dr.Koh is very friendly and professional and she speaks a little English -  at least enough to communicate the problem.  The receptionists are helpful and professional and I was seen almost immediately without any notice. Costs are cheap - around W10,000 for the consultation, without using medical insurance (they just need your ARC card).

To get there, go to the Jirisan building and cross the street to Seoshin library, then walk diagonally through the park to the far corner - you'll be in front of a big Poongnyun Bakery/Cafe; the entrance is to the right and it's on the second floor (no English sign). The large pharmacy about three doors down is also recommended - the young male pharmacist who works there speaks excellent English."
