Troy Lindsey: “Out of Time for People Without Time”

By David Van Minnen

Some of us have had the pleasure of hearing Troy’s talent live. Now we can all hear him recorded! Troy Lindsey is a helicopter mechanic who spent a several ‘tours of duty’ in Jeonju, fixing whirlybirds for the forestry service. While he was here he performed regularly at Art & Travel and JRs Saloon.  When he was neither working or on stage, he spent his time finishing up his first album. The aviation outfit for whom he is employed was at the end of its warranty/service term. This meant the end of Korean tours for their mechanics. In the eleventh hour, Troy gave me a particular honor: He invited me to his apartment to lay down a harmonica track for one of his songs (Beads of Debauchery). His entire studio fit on the coffee table! A laptop, a high-end USB audio input device, headphones, and a microphone. I sat on the couch, blew my harp for the song twice, and that was it. But it was not so easy for Troy. Over the last year or so, he had been traveling all over, performing, recording in motel rooms, and sending all his tracks by e-mail to a mixing studio in the United States. Troy is a singer-songwriter and guitarist. All the other instruments were a collaborative quilt-job from all over the globe, of people who have never met. The thing we all have in common is knowing Troy, and our love for making music. Troy’s debut album is now released! He did a radio interview in the USA when is kicked off. Troy designed, directed, and produced the whole thing himself. The last portion of the album was wrought in the fires of Jeonju. You may pick up a copy of the CD at Art & Travel, or from me, for 10,000. There are just a handful of CDs in the Ju, so order quick to avoid the wait and higher cost of getting a copy in the mail. You can also buy it online at www.troylindsey.com. Show your support of a musician who did time in the Ju, and has released his own full album.
