About The Jeonju Hub

Made in Jeonju, for Jeonju

The Jeonju Hub was created in September, 2006 by David Van Minnen. It is a community-oriented website serving ALL English speakers in the area. The majority of English-speakers in Jeonju happen to be ESL-teaching expatriats; but the site exists for people of all cultures and professions in the Jeonju area.

The 'Hub' (main page) is the focus, featuring translated news, events, and a bulletin board, useful even for long-time veterans of the city.

Support

This site is operated as a community service. There is little chance it will be a profitable business. There are a few paid ads. They help to defer operational costs. The Jeonju Hub also accepts donations. See the 'Tip Jar' in right column.

"Jeonju News" section

All news in this section is arranged and written by David Van Minnen and Barun Sarkar, unless otherwise specifically quoted. The initials that appear before an article correspond to the contributor list on the right. These contributors provided the editors with the "scoop." This includes the link, and (if the source is Korean) the information in the story. The process of translation is done mostly via interview, rarely via full translation. If you or someone you know wants to improve their Korean/English translation ability, send a news link, a mugshot, and your phone number to thejeonjuhub@gmail.com. (your phone number will called by dvm for the interview--not published) If your story is published, you will be listed as a contributor on the right of this page.

World/National News section

This newsfeed (thank-you, Twitter) is supplied almost entirely by the tireless hunter-gatherer tenacity of Marcus Aurelius, with sparse insertions by David Van Minnen.

Events, Bulletin Board, THINGS YOU WANT POSTED

These sections (and all the rest of the site, basically) are supplied entirely by viewers like you. If you want an event or notice posted, send it in to thejeonjuhub@gmail.com. David Van Minnen is personally, legally responsible for every pixel displayed on this site, therefore all posts wait in the inbox for approval and editing. His family and work schedule have priority (no apologies for that), so at times there will be delays. If your post is urgent, please send a text message to 010-3911-1010 to politely encourage him to get his ass in gear. There is no charge for postings.

This site is an arrangement of YOUR contributions. Thanks so much! ...

Advertising

Do you want to place a paid ad on the main page? Or how about a full-length feature article on the back page? Call David at 010-3911-1010 with your ideas.

These people help me(and you) by finding stories in Jeollabukdo news sources, and answering my many questions until I have a firm understanding of the article. It is done by way of conversation rather than translation. More English students are welcome to join this process. It helps your English while helping others!
